On a gorgeous sunny January afternoon in 2022 Kent’s pointer Katy found this nice covey of wild, public land bobwhite. My Dot got an assist sliding in late with an unmotivated honor. This dog, and her owner, travelled from North Carolina for an opportunity to see this exact scenario. Kent should be proud!

Dot & Ginger’s Tree Row Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting
Opening day ’24 my little Dottie and Ben’s Ginger found this big covey in the trees. Lydia and I both could see birds on the ground before the chaotic flush. If you watch center screen you can see a hen facing me in the grass. What a great way to start the season.

Lily’s First Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting
What a great way to introduce my new pointer, Lily! While I know this isn’t her first experience with bobwhite bobwhite it was her first covey find for me. It couldn’t have been a better find, point, flush and shot. I don’t normally see such large coveys and that makes this video that much more fun. Hopefully there will be a lot more of these this fall.

Saki’s Single | Oklahoma Quail Hunting
Ken’s pointer pupply Saki found this single wild bobwhite in December 2020. This bird gets up from about as thin cover as you’ll ever see! Fun stuff.

Lily’s Late Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting
In mid-February 2025 Lily found this covey of wild bobwhite up on a hillside late in the day. We fought high winds all day and they were still strong as the sun was starting to set. If you watch you can see Lily’s ears flap in the wind as she stands on point. It was a nice strong covey for that late in the year and despite my best efforts they all flew away.

Lupin’s Puppy Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting
Ellie Mae found this covey of public land bobwhite on 2/7/22. It was a thing of beauty to watch. She winded where they had been and circled downwind moving into the nice point you see on the video. Lupin, Tom’s young setter, on the other hand did what puppies do and ran pell-mell into the pointed covey. In what has become a disturbing trend for me pulled the trigger on an empty chamber. I MUSTstart loading my gun occasionally! Feel free to laugh at me.

Dot’s Andy Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting
My little pointer Dot found this covey on the edge of a sand draw in a pasture we call the “Andy”. She was all contorted around a big sand plum shrub with the birds below her. Only two birds flushed initially with the remainder of the covey (about 10 birds) going out well after the shots. I can tell it’s early season as it took me two shots to knock one down and I was out of breath after the action. I’ll be back after them this weekend and can hopefully get some better footage. #bobwhitehunting #birdhunting #bobwhite_hunting #oklahomahunting

Aidan’s Ragged Double | Oklahoma Quail Hunting
I found this little clip while I was reviewing footage from last season. Taken in late December 2020 it shows Aidan scratching down a report pair on top of a sage covered hill. I’ve watched this young man grow up in the bobwhite fields from the wide-eyed kid who’d just shot his first bobwhite to the capable hunter you see in the clip. Take a kid hunting this fall!
