5 Reasons to Own a German Shorthaired Pointer

5 Reasons to Own a German Shorthaired Pointer!

Full Name
Do you have a fenced yard?
Where will it spend most of its time?

Here are five solid reasons why people love owning a German Shorthaired Pointer—and why one might be a great fit for you:

1. Incredible versatility
Originally bred as hunting dogs, GSPs can do it all—pointing, retrieving, tracking, and even agility sports. Whether you’re into outdoor adventures or dog sports, they adapt quickly.

2. High intelligence
They’re very smart and eager to learn, which makes training relatively easy (as long as you stay consistent). They excel in obedience, scent work, and problem-solving tasks.

3. Energetic and athletic companions
If you enjoy running, hiking, or being active, this breed will keep up—no problem. They thrive in homes where they get plenty of exercise and stimulation.

4. Friendly and social personality
GSPs are known for being affectionate and good with families. They tend to get along well with kids and other dogs when properly socialized.

5. Low grooming maintenance
Their short coat is easy to care for—just occasional brushing and basic upkeep. Compared to long-haired breeds, they’re relatively low-effort in this department.

That said, they’re not for everyone—they need a lot of exercise and attention. Without it, they can get bored (and destructive).

THIS pheasant hunt was absolutely unreal.
151+ roosters harvested in a single day on a South Dakota preserve — non-stop flushes and constant action.

We filmed this entire hunt in one day, and the action was so consistent that we split it into two full videos — this one from my POV using GoPro and MaxCam, and another from Corey’s setup showing a completely different angle of the same chaos.
This hunt took place on a licensed South Dakota preserve and showcases just how wild pheasant hunting can get when birds are moving everywhere. From safety meetings to nonstop rooster flushes, this is one of the most action-packed pheasant hunts we’ve ever filmed.
Be sure to check out Corey’s full POV hunt linked below for another look at this incredible day.
