Third time in the field for Rip Dog with live birds and he is getting better each time. Another beautiful day in Virginia and great weather for an East coast style bobwhite hunt in the pines! Can’t thank Carl @ Sportsman’s Hunting Preserve in Carrsville for letting us come out every weekend and work my dog at his facility. These Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are absolutely amazing dogs!

A collection of my 12 favorite flush captures since I started videoing my hunts. You’ll see my pointing dogs as well as those of my friends pointing coveys of bobwhite and blue bobwhite as well as Huns, rooster and ruffed grouse. I used a new format so let me know what you think. On the backside of an ice storm some young dogs, Dot and Holly, both had beautiful finds on strong coveys of Oklahoma Bobwhite. I finally got some decent covey flush clips and with Jeff along we caught two angles of every flush.

Bob’s pointer Riley is probably the best wild bird dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of walking behind. He nailed these private land bobwhites from 40+ yards away in a brisk breeze on 1/7/24. I think that stalking behavior is likely from his frequent exposure to ruffed grouse. Not everybody gets to see dogs like Riley really putting their genetics and talent to work in real life situations. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I usually quit carrying my gun about mid-January but I took it on a couple walks the last week of the season with some friends. This is the last bird I shot in the 21/22 season. It was a tough season as the numbers were down a bit and conditions were terrible but I was blessed to hunt a great deal with my dogs and my friends. I’m hopeful I can do this again next season.
