My little pointer Dot found this covey on the edge of a sand draw in a pasture we call the “Andy”. She was all contorted around a big sand plum shrub with the birds below her. Only two birds flushed initially with the remainder of the covey (about 10 birds) going out well after the shots. I can tell it’s early season as it took me two shots to knock one down and I was out of breath after the action. I found this little clip while I was reviewing footage from last season. Taken in late December 2020 it shows Aidan scratching down a report pair on top of a sage covered hill. I’ve watched this young man grow up in the bobwhite fields from the wide-eyed kid who’d just shot his first bobwhite to the capable hunter you see in the clip. Take a kid hunting this fall!
