You don’t see much of her in the clip but my Ellie Mae found these birds in some thick thistles after we had walked past them. She’s an old hand and not much escapes her. The clip is also neat because I wasn’t the only one wearing a camera. Listen to the birds flush in the clip Dave captured. They make quite the racket coming out of the thick brush.

We are walking towards the car when I see the dog stay in Masestra … a starting of that moment begins what from my point of view is a perfect spear hunting the partridge with a subscripte mudra dog;)
It’s incredibly important to reward good behavior during training AND on a hunt.

The best way that I’ve found to start or train a bird dog is to use pigeons and launchers to simulate what a wild bird would do. Without any verbal encouragement to point or verbal rebuke for NOT pointing, I continue to give the dog opportunities to point until their natural desire to point is witnessed.

This is my second effort at this video. Ellie, Dot and I had a wonderful afternoon. Ellie pointed a tight-holding covey right out of the truck (I missed). She then nailed a single (I did not miss). Dot then bumped our second covey but helped Ellie with a single on covey number three. This is my first video of Dot on wild birds and I know the last clip isn’t very good but it I want to remember her.
