Dot’s Andy Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

My little pointer Dot found this covey on the edge of a sand draw in a pasture we call the “Andy”. She was all contorted around a big sand plum shrub with the birds below her. Only two birds flushed initially with the remainder of the covey (about 10 birds) going out well after the shots. I can tell it’s early season as it took me two shots to knock one down and I was out of breath after the action. I’ll be back after them this weekend and can hopefully get some better footage. #bobwhitehunting #birdhunting #bobwhite_hunting #oklahomahunting

Aidan’s Ragged Double | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

I found this little clip while I was reviewing footage from last season. Taken in late December 2020 it shows Aidan scratching down a report pair on top of a sage covered hill. I’ve watched this young man grow up in the bobwhite fields from the wide-eyed kid who’d just shot his first bobwhite to the capable hunter you see in the clip. Take a kid hunting this fall!

Hunting de Codornices Neste of Texas with a characteristic of the Rolling Plains Research Center

From the Rolling Plains Quail Research Center, we join Dr. Dale Rollins, one of the main experts of the nations when it comes to bobwhite and several outdoor writers who have joined talk about bobwhite investigation, as well as several products used by bobwhite hunters. The Rolling Plains Quail Research Foundation (RPQRF) is a non -profit organization 501 (c) (3) that focuses on one thing: understanding and administering Bobwhite’s bobwhite and climbing in western Texas. Everything we do is focused on bobwhite and bobwhite hunting, as reflected in our mission: the Foundation and its research ranch were established to provide a living laboratory to design land management strategies for the benefit of bobwhite and also as an exemplary property to demonstrate the best methodologies and techniques to other “bobwhite students”.

Bailey’s Campground Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

Todd’s Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Bailey, is the first of the continental breeds to make it to my page this season. She found this covey of public land bobwhites feeding in a sage flat in amongst some stately cottonwoods late in the day on 12/2/24.

Joe and Penny’s Wild Bobwhite | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

Joe from Maryland brought his pretty little setter, Penny, down to see me this weekend. We had a cool day that started with a bit of frost on the prairie and our first covey about 100 yards from the truck. Later that same walk Joe’s Penny found this covey of bobwhite and Joe was able to score on two birds. Not bad for a mostly self-taught guy with relatively limited access to wild birds. Fun stuff.
