Todd’s Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Bailey, is the first of the continental breeds to make it to my page this season. She found this covey of public land bobwhites feeding in a sage flat in amongst some stately cottonwoods late in the day on 12/2/24. source
On a breezy late season day in February, 2025 Lily found this covey of uncooperative wild bobwhite in a super thick patch of sandhill plum. As you can see in the video the thicket was noticeably deeper than I expected. I’m not a tall guy and I was almost swallowed up before I got across….
I normally edit a lot of the approach out of my videos but I left this one entirely intact from when I turned my camera on to when I shut it off. This video shows the entire process as well as any I’ve captured in a long time. Plus, it’s Dot who I love. She’s…
Dot has gotten progressively weaker as the season has passed. I have to only take her on really short walks as she has virtually no stamina. Despite her limits she almost always finds birds. source
You don’t see much of her in the clip but my Ellie Mae found these birds in some thick thistles after we had walked past them. She’s an old hand and not much escapes her. The clip is also neat because I wasn’t the only one wearing a camera. Listen to the birds flush in…
Ellie Mae found this covey on some OLAP (Oklahoma Landowner Access Program) property. They were tucked way back in an old wind-break tree row and held super tight on the point. It was a quiet afternoon and you can really hear the birds flush in the video. I’m disappointed with the video because in real…
In late 2017 I captured this covey of Oklahoma bobwhite wildly flushing from a large plum thicket. source
She’s hard to see through the sumac but that’s my Ellie Mae (Elton John when she’s a rock star like in this video) making the find on a sneaky covey of wild bobwhite hiding alongside a draw wall. I called it the Bomb Covey because when these birds came out of that bush it sounded…
Ellie Mae found this covey on a windy day in December 2019. source
Ben’s little Brittany Cali found these birds on a frosty February morning in 2021. The Tuesday before this clip (really all these frost clips) were taken we had freezing fog. This hunt was that following Thursday and the frost on the tops of the sage hadn’t melted making for a surreal landscape unlike anything I…
Dot found this covey of public land birds near a big stack of wood where they are doing some brush mitigation work. Her health has dramatically decreased her stamina and energy. She gets short walks exclusively now. I’m thankful she’s still able to hunt and she certainly finds her share of birds. source
Last Thursday 1/11/24 I enjoyed one of the best days of bobwhite hunting I’ve ever had. The blizzard had passed through that Monday night and the birds finally came out to feed in the afternoon sunshine. This find by Lilly was just one of many we had that afternoon. She nailed these wild, public-land bobwhites…
Jimmy and Marissa’s big Brittany, Briar, found this covey of bobwhite spread out near a well pad on the nearby WMA. Not my best capture but it’s not everyday I get to hunt with a true southern gentleman like Jimmy and certainly not everyday that I get to hunt with a gorgeous southern belle like…
A collection of my 12 favorite flush captures since I started videoing my hunts. You’ll see my pointing dogs as well as those of my friends pointing coveys of bobwhite and blue bobwhite as well as Huns, rooster and ruffed grouse. I used a new format so let me know what you think. The idea…
Bob’s pointer Riley is probably the best wild bird dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of walking behind. He nailed these private land bobwhites from 40+ yards away in a brisk breeze on 1/7/24. I think that stalking behavior is likely from his frequent exposure to ruffed grouse. Not everybody gets to see dogs like…
I went through my video clips from 2019/2020 and picked out the best covey flushes. There are 12 total and they are a good sample of the different dogs and habitats I found birds in that season. There are videos of both blue and bobwhite bobwhite on both private and public lands. I hope you…
