I spent the weekend before Christmas with Jon and his two teenage sons chasing wild bobwhite bobwhite in the sage. As has been the case all season the conditions were really tough and coveys were hard to find. On the last walk of the day Dot and Jon’s old pointer, Duke, found this small covey. With the sun in my face it is hard to see the action but when Dot first stopped I could see the birds running through the sage ahead of her. Despite my best efforts she lost her head and moved into the covey causing the staggered flush you see in the clip.
I’m spending most of this week hunting and I hope I’ll get some better footage to share. So far it’s been a tough year.
