Quail hunting with Deutsch Drahthaar dogs in operation at Little “q” Ranch (Oxford, MS, USA) with Dr. Houston Graves and his pups Rufus and Gus. The Deutsch-Drahthaar was created in Germany in the late 19th century by a small group of dedicated breeders who set out to develop a versatile hunting dog that would satisfy all aspects of German hunting in the field, forest and water. This group of breeders managed to create a versatile hunting dog that took its traits from the best dogs of the existing coarse-haired breeds, crossed with short-haired blood. These ancestors included the Stichelhaar, the Pudelpointer, the Griffon and the Deutsch-Kurzhaar. Dr. Houston Graves and his wife went out with their two Drahts Rufus (almost 10 months old) and Gus (11 years old) bobwhite hunting at Little “q” Ranch this Monday, and it was a pleasure to see him and the kids back. We went out to a training session where we worked on stability with a control cord on planted birds. After the “serious” training, it was time to have fun with OG DD Gus. Gus knew the game and played it well, scoring a couple of leftover singles and recovering them like it was his job. Like and subscribe for more bobwhite hunting videos and versatile pointers.
