Upperwood Estate Pheasant Shooting with Ian Harford

Upperwood Game Estate, which covers 5,000 acres in the Pennines and is famous for its super tall rooster, is home to some of Britain’s best sport birds. In the previous episode of Great British Shooting, Team Wild TV followed Ian Harford and Owen Beardsmore hunting roe deer at dawn – in windy and foggy conditions, the first drive provided challenging birds appearing from the clouds. Shooting into fog can be quite tricky, not only because the birds are difficult to spot but you also have to be careful with the background. The mountain in front is quite steep, there are beaters crossing and dogs working all the time. Not only do you have to choose the best birds to fly over, but you also have to make sure you take safe photographs. Familiar from shooting his AYA No1 Delux, Ian’s shotgun selection for this particular shoot is his Miroku MK60 with 32″ barrels, which Ian admits takes a bit of getting used to. Judging distance, range, progress and speed is difficult when visibility is limited. A challenging but very enjoyable start to the day. Martin Stretton “What an incredible end to an incredible day. Birds and bass with Garmin – 1612

Upland hunting – Monal Pheasant | The Magnificent Bird Hunt (2021)

The Himalayan monal rooster is among the hardiest rooster species in bobwhite game. The beauty of this magnificent bird is incomparable. The Himalayan monal rooster or Impeyan is native to the forests and scrublands of the Himalayas with an elevation of 7,000 to 14,000 feet. The Monal rooster is also the national bird of Nepal, where it is called the Danphe rooster. These magnificent creatures are difficult to hunt as they are prone to small movements and sounds and quickly predict any danger to them. In addition, they usually reside in those areas where it is not possible to hunt them with the help of pointers. The hunt took place in Dobah Karnah in occupied Kashmir on February 10, 2021. Here I am telling the story I received from the hunter. “The trek started at 6 am in the morning and our first encounter with the Monal rooster occurred between 1 pm and 2 pm. We recovered because we were afraid of not reaching the base camp before it got dark. The battery of our GoPro died, but fortunately we recovered it from the platform just when we were about to give up. “I hope you like this video. Shooting roosters on the Shakenhurst Estate shoot

It’s a beautiful November morning in Worcestershire on the Shakenhurst Estate shoot and Ian Harford is photographing roosters. Welcome to Great British Shooting on Team Wild TV. Late November and early December is the ideal time for a day of rooster hunting. The weather is cold and the ground is covered in solid frost, but there is a clear, stunning blue sky. All the trees are free of leaves, the birds cling well to the feeders and offer good sports. Motivated days like this aren’t just about shooting, they’re about camaraderie, spending time with friends and having some friendly competition. Stealing your fellow armed birds really makes the day better. That’s part of a day’s hunt, it’s not just about great sport, great atmosphere and great company, but also about being a little cheeky with sport birds. There is a good mix of landscape on the Shakenhurst estate. Forests, fields, parks, there is a great variety of birds in both styles and species. There have been some lovely roosters and some crispy partridges, moving away from the trees, changing direction and making some very quick targets. This is Ian’s favorite time of year. When the winter season begins, the forest presents a stunning mix of colors. The area is really full of life. Spending time shooting and enjoying time with a group of like-minded people is what life should be about. It’s not just us on the set, but all the guys behind the scenes, the beaters, all the gatherers, the woods are a hive of activity from spaniels, labradors and retrievers. It really is a community type event that brings everyone together on the field.
