Scapula winging refers to the abnormal protrusion or “winging” of the shoulder blade (scapula) away from the back. This condition typically occurs due to weakness or paralysis of the muscles that hold the scapula in place, particularly the serratus anterior muscle, which is responsible for stabilizing the scapula against the rib cage. When these muscles don’t function properly, the scapula may move outward, causing visible deformity.

Scapula winging can be caused by nerve injury, particularly to the long thoracic nerve, which innervates the serratus anterior. It can also result from muscular or neurological conditions, trauma, or surgery. Symptoms may include shoulder pain, difficulty lifting the arm, and limited shoulder mobility. Treatment depends on the underlying cause but may include physical therapy, strengthening exercises, or in severe cases, surgery. #shoulderdislocation #shoulderjoint #jaipur #drsuniltank
