Today we are taking a look at the Wire Haired Pointing Griffon. I’m no expert on the breed, but I though you guys might like me to give you a brief overview of what I know and then compare and contrast the WPG to the German Shorthaired Pointer.

The Griffon is a very people oriented dog known for its trainability and high degree of cooperation. Although the Griffon has a great love for the field and is an excellent swimmer, it is equally at home in the obedience and show ring. With its keen nose it is also a natural at tracking. The fun loving side of its personality enjoys agility training. The Griff’s outgoing personality makes it a wonderful family pet and great with children. My eldest daughter brought home a stray Texan the weekend before Thanksgiving. I convinced him to spend a day afield with me chasing my bird dogs. He got to see dogs on point and coveys flushing. He also got to shoot his first bobwhite, both bobwhite and blue. This video shows him flushing a shooting his first bobwhite. It was a banded and collared bird on a private ranch which is participating with Texas Tech University in a multi-state bobwhite study. Fun stuff!
