Rizzo is my 12 week old German Shorthaired Pointer out of Nickel Creek Gun Dogs. This was his first training session with John Augustine. I can’t believe how long he held point with his head held high at such a young age and then to finish it off with a full retrieve bird in hand. I love my German Shorthaired Pointer! Today we are taking a look at the Wire Haired Pointing Griffon. I’m no expert on the breed, but I though you guys might like me to give you a brief overview of what I know and then compare and contrast the WPG to the German Shorthaired Pointer.

The Griffon is a very people oriented dog known for its trainability and high degree of cooperation. Although the Griffon has a great love for the field and is an excellent swimmer, it is equally at home in the obedience and show ring. With its keen nose it is also a natural at tracking. Ron Boehme has been a judge for the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association for 25 years and is the creator of The Hunting Dog Podcast. He is an expert when it comes to knowing which breeds perform best in the field and what qualities hunters should look for in a canine hunting partner. Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Ron was not introduced to hunting and gun culture until he was a teenager.
