The best way that I’ve found to start or train a bird dog is to use pigeons and launchers to simulate what a wild bird would do. Without any verbal encouragement to point or verbal rebuke for NOT pointing, I continue to give the dog opportunities to point until their natural desire to point is witnessed.

Whoa. Thought by many as the most important pointing dog command. Watch 14 month old Cass transform from a dog who has never heard the whoa command to one who stops quickly with a single whoa command given at a normal volume. It’s taught using the whoa and heel method (aka the walking whoa method).
