Ellie’s Reserve Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

You don’t see much of her in the clip but my Ellie Mae found these birds in some thick thistles after we had walked past them. She’s an old hand and not much escapes her. The clip is also neat because I wasn’t the only one wearing a camera. Listen to the birds flush in the clip Dave captured. They make quite the racket coming out of the thick brush.

Ellie’s OLAP Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

Ellie Mae found this covey on some OLAP (Oklahoma Landowner Access Program) property. They were tucked way back in an old wind-break tree row and held super tight on the point. It was a quiet afternoon and you can really hear the birds flush in the video. I’m disappointed with the video because in real life this was a really neat point/flush. I could see Ellie much better and could also see the birds on the ground before the hard flush. Too bad real life doesn’t always translate to video well. Anyway I told Allen I’d post a video of me missing so here it is…

Ellie’s Bomb Covey | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

She’s hard to see through the sumac but that’s my Ellie Mae (Elton John when she’s a rock star like in this video) making the find on a sneaky covey of wild bobwhite hiding alongside a draw wall. I called it the Bomb Covey because when these birds came out of that bush it sounded like a bomb going off! Ellie was joined by Brent’s pointer Maddie and Will’s wirehair Etta and Baer. So many cool dogs so little time.

There’s a bit of NSFW language in the video so beware. I started to edit it out but ultimately decided that the covey flush is, in fact, ****** cool! Will from Tennessee sure seemed to think it was alright.

Ellie’s OLAP Surprise! | Oklahoma Quail Hunting

Such a great day afield! At the close of a 12 mile day today Ellie Mae found this covey of public land bobwhite way back deep on a tract of OLAP property. I shot one of the first two birds up but what you don’t see on the left side of this clip is the 10 other birds that flushed. It’s been tough hunting this year and is great to see nice coveys on public ground.
