And when he figures out that he can’t catch this fun little flippy thing that he’s chasing, Hey, what are you doing? If he figures out he can’t catch it, it’s actually gonna bring out his natural pointing instinct. Now, you may be asking yourself now why this is a problem. The biggest thing that becomes an issue is that it’s 100% sight-driven pointing. Our bird dogs of today, especially those that live in an urban environment, have learned, and through the development of the, even the breeding of the dogs today, that sight becomes almost more important than scent, especially through that development process. Like I said, living in an urban environment.

Right after we’re finished in the field, we’re going to do a tailgate check. This is something that gets thrown around a lot, but I think it gets overlooked as a whole.

A couple of places that we want to look at are in their ears, pads, between the toes, and on the chest.

When the dogs are running through the field, they can pick up different things like seeds, sticks, or anything else that can cause problems down the road.

Dogs are really tough and they will hide a lot, which is why we’ve got to be their advocate and be able to check these things out for them.
