Should you get a German Shorthaired pointer puppy?

1. Should you get a German Shorthair puppy?
2. Things to know before you do
a. They are known as the perfect pointer
b. GSP’s generally are 23-25in tall and males are 55-70 lbs 40-55lbs.
3. They are some of the best pointers
4. Because they were bred to hunt, GSPs have razor-sharp instincts for anything that could be prey, such as squirrels, birds, or rabbits. This prey drive might cause them to bolt during off-leash exercise, or scale fences or walls in pursuit of their quarry
5. They are an extremely active breed with bundles of endless energy
6. This is not a quick-walk-after-work kind of dog. The GSP requires serious exercise: running, swimming, long walks, playing in a fenced area, and anything else you can do to take the edge off their energy. Two daily sessions of ample physical activity are recommended, though with a GSP, there’s no such thing as too much exercise
7. They are fun dogs with lots of quirks
8. They make for great family dog, and love to cuddle
9. The German breeders who developed GSPs wanted companionable family pets, as well as pointers—and they succeeded. The GSP is a very affectionate, loving companion that mostly likes children and other dogs
10. Overall it was one of the best decisions my fiancé and I made to get one. We highly recommended the breed for a hunting dog or a family dog. They have changed our lives for the better and I can’t imagine a world without them now

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
The Brittany is considered a versatile hunting dog, but it shines when it comes to bobwhite bird hunting. If you’re looking to chase a variety of bobwhite birds from roosters to chukar to grouse, a Brittany would make the perfect pointing and retrieving partner.

Although some Brittanies take to the water, it isn’t a part of their common repertoire. So don’t be disappointed if you don’t end up with an A+ duck dog. That’s just not their typical jam. And they lack the double coat found in many retrieving breeds, leaving them more open to the elements in wet conditions. They do typically have a flat or wavy coat, and they do well with a weekly brushing.

Brittanies don’t have the same issues that many other pet-focused breeds do, as hunting bloodlines remain predominant in the breed. But it’s important to have pups checked for hip dysplasia. Other health issues that occasionally come up in the breed are hyperthyroidism and epilepsy. So ask your breeder for thyroid and hip exams prior to bringing your new pup home.
