Today we are going squirrel hunting on public lands with my German Shorthaired Pointer, Maple, and my Remington 870 Wingmaster in 20 gauge. It was a lazy afternoon in the woods and Maple put in a lot of effort. At the end of the hunt, we managed to put two squirrels in the bag, and Maple took it upon herself to retrieve them. For me, it all started with squirrel hunting. It’s low-stress, a great way to scout deer country before season, and it’s the closest thing to field-to-table hunting. In fact, our next video will be a recipe for cooking the same squirrels from today’s hunt, so stick around. After that, it’s straight into Ohio whitetail archery season.
